The internetās in disbelief after a mum from Liverpool reportedly chose to serve a short jail sentence rather than complete community service so she could āget some peace and quietā away from her kids.
According to court documents, the 33-year-old woman ā who was convicted of petty theft ā was offered 80 hours of community service instead of jail time. But in a move that left even the judge speechless, she told the court sheād ārather do the timeā than deal with her āthree screaming nightmares at home.ā
One witness said:
āEveryone just went silent. You could hear jaws hitting the floor.ā
The woman was sentenced to 21 days in a local womenās prison, where sheās reportedly been bragging that itās āthe first decent sleep Iāve had in years.ā
Unsurprisingly, the internet had a field day with the story:
- āMum of the year? More like mum of the fear.ā
- āImagine calling jail your spa retreat.ā
- āSheās about to get a Netflix doc called Orange Is the New Mum.ā
While some people called her behaviour ādisgraceful,ā others weirdly sympathised ā pointing out how burnt-out single parents can feel when thereās no support system in place.
As one commenter put it:
āItās funny until you realise how many parents are on the edge. Still wild though.ā
Moral of the story? Parenting is hard ā but maybe donāt pick prison over playtime.
