The internet’s in disbelief after a mum from Liverpool reportedly chose to serve a short jail sentence rather than complete community service so she could “get some peace and quiet” away from her kids.
According to court documents, the 33-year-old woman — who was convicted of petty theft — was offered 80 hours of community service instead of jail time. But in a move that left even the judge speechless, she told the court she’d “rather do the time” than deal with her “three screaming nightmares at home.”
One witness said:
“Everyone just went silent. You could hear jaws hitting the floor.”
The woman was sentenced to 21 days in a local women’s prison, where she’s reportedly been bragging that it’s “the first decent sleep I’ve had in years.”
Unsurprisingly, the internet had a field day with the story:
- “Mum of the year? More like mum of the fear.”
- “Imagine calling jail your spa retreat.”
- “She’s about to get a Netflix doc called Orange Is the New Mum.”
While some people called her behaviour “disgraceful,” others weirdly sympathised — pointing out how burnt-out single parents can feel when there’s no support system in place.
As one commenter put it:
“It’s funny until you realise how many parents are on the edge. Still wild though.”
Moral of the story? Parenting is hard — but maybe don’t pick prison over playtime.
