A routine search turned chaotic when a homemade “Coke bomb” suddenly detonated in the face of a police officer.
According to authorities, officers had been called to investigate suspicious activity in a residential neighborhood. Inside a garage, they discovered several soda bottles rigged with household chemicals — a crude but dangerous explosive device often referred to as a “Coke bomb.”
While inspecting one of the bottles, an officer lifted it to examine the contents. Without warning, the bottle burst, spraying chemicals and debris directly into his face. Witnesses said the blast sounded like a gunshot and sent the officer stumbling backwards.
Fellow officers rushed to help, flushing his eyes and calling for emergency medical support. Fortunately, the officer suffered only minor injuries and was later treated at a local hospital.
Police say the device was likely created as a prank but warned that these homemade bombs are no joke. “They can cause serious burns, blindness, or worse,” a spokesperson said. “Anyone caught making them will face criminal charges.”
The incident has since sparked outrage in the community, with many pointing out how dangerous the so-called “prank” could have been if children had found it instead. An investigation is underway to determine who created and left the device.
