A police officer has gone viral after arresting a teenage girl — not for a crime, but allegedly for having an attitude.
The incident, caught on cellphone video, shows a 17-year-old named Maya Torres being questioned outside a convenience store after what police described as a “verbal disturbance.”
In the clip, Maya appears frustrated but calm, rolling her eyes and muttering under her breath as the officer lectures her about respect. Moments later, he tells her she’s “done” — and suddenly grabs her wrist to handcuff her.
“What am I being arrested for?” she asks, visibly stunned.
“For that attitude,” the officer replies.
The video cuts off as onlookers start shouting, “You can’t arrest someone for that!”
Within hours, the footage exploded across TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), racking up millions of views and sparking a fierce debate about police power and teenage behavior.
“Imagine getting cuffed for rolling your eyes,” one commenter wrote.
Another added: “That cop must’ve been having a bad day.”
Local police later issued a statement saying the officer “used poor wording” but claimed the teen was detained for “disorderly conduct,” not attitude alone. Still, critics say the damage was already done.
“She’s a teenager. She talked back — that’s not a crime,” wrote one viewer.
The department confirmed an internal review is underway. Maya has since been released without charges.
