A 29-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after falling asleep in his vehicle while allegedly under the influence, police report. Authorities say Elliot Turner, known locally for his outspoken socialist views on social media, had been parked in a downtown lot when officers noticed his car running and the driver slumped over the steering wheel.

Officers tried to wake Turner, who reportedly mumbled about “redistributing the streetlights” and insisted he was just “protesting capitalism one nap at a time.” After failing sobriety tests, Turner was taken into custody for driving under the influence and public endangerment.

A police spokesperson said:
“Regardless of political beliefs or social commentary, operating a vehicle while intoxicated is illegal. Falling asleep behind the wheel is extremely dangerous.”

Witnesses outside the lot said Turner was cheerfully argumentative during the arrest, claiming he was “exercising civil disobedience” and “sleeping for the people.”

Turner is currently being held with a scheduled court appearance next week. Authorities emphasized that his political views played no role in the arrest — it was his driving and intoxication that brought him to their attention.
