A 24-year-old man learned the hard way that law enforcement tools are no joke after a confrontation outside a downtown convenience store Friday night.
Police say Jordan Hayes initially mocked an officer’s taser, laughing and waving his hands as if to say, “Is that all you got?” Witnesses report that Hayes continued to taunt officers even after being warned to back away.
When he refused to comply, officers deployed pepper spray, and Hayes’s demeanor changed immediately. According to the police report, he collapsed to the ground, coughing, and quickly pled for assistance, no longer laughing.
One officer commented:
“He clearly thought tasers were just props, but the spray is a whole different story. He became a believer fast.”
Hayes was arrested for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, and officers said he received medical attention on the scene before being transported to the station.
A bystander summed it up perfectly:
“One minute he’s joking like he’s in a movie, the next he’s crying and apologizing. It was brutal, but also kind of hilarious from a distance.”
