A homeowner in Atlanta returned from a trip to find a family of strangers living in his house — and insisting it was their cousin’s place.
According to reports, the squatters claimed they were “just watching the house for a relative,” but couldn’t actually remember the cousin’s name. Police were called when the rightful owner found his own fridge stocked with someone else’s groceries and his Netflix account logged out.
One of the squatters reportedly told officers,
“We’ve been here for weeks — we even took the bins out!”
The clip of the bizarre standoff has since gone viral, with commenters calling it “the boldest Airbnb move of 2025.”
The homeowner eventually got his property back, but not before the internet had its say.
“They didn’t just break in — they moved in,” one commenter joked.
Authorities reminded residents that squatters’ rights laws can make removing uninvited guests complicated — and that if your “cousin” suddenly has different furniture, maybe give them a call.
