Police officers responding to a disturbance call were reportedly attacked after entering the home of a man later confirmed to have schizophrenia.
According to authorities, officers arrived following reports of loud shouting and possible distress inside the property. When they entered, the man — appearing confused and agitated — allegedly lashed out and punched one of the officers.
Sources say the situation quickly escalated before backup arrived and the man was safely restrained. No serious injuries were reported, and he has since been taken for psychiatric evaluation rather than placed in jail.
Mental health advocates have urged the public not to judge the man too harshly, noting that such incidents often stem from fear, confusion, or lack of access to proper care.
“This shows why trained crisis responders and mental health professionals are so important,” one advocate said. “People in crisis need support — not punishment.”
Police have confirmed that an internal review is underway to ensure the situation was handled safely and appropriately.
