COPPERAS COVE, Texas (WKRC) – A 12-year-old boy returned home from school to discover an empty house after his parents allegedly moved away without telling him.

According to police reports obtained by local outlet Fox 44, police were contacted on Friday by a 12-year-old child that said he came home from school to find his home, an apartment on Primrose Drive, completely empty. Not only was the child’s mother, Erica Renee Sanders, and her boyfriend, Keven Dwayne Adams, nowhere to be found, but the house had also been cleared out, police said.

The child reportedly said that Adams and Sanders had discussed moving at some point, but he was not told it would be happening anytime soon. Upon finding the empty house, the child reportedly showed the scene to a neighbor, who notified police that the couple had kicked the 12-year-old out of the house multiple times in the past.

Investigators contacted Adams and Sanders via phone, and the couple said that the child was supposed to be picked up by his uncle, police said. The couple would not give the uncle’s information when prompted. Nonetheless, authorities managed to contact the uncle, who said he had no idea what arrangement Adams and Sanders were referring to.

Additionally, the couple reportedly refused to disclose their new address when child protective services asked for it.

During questioning with officers, Adams allegedly “complained at length” about his girlfriend’s child.

Both Adams and Sanders were arrested on charges of abandoning or endangering a child without intent to return.
