A woman who thought her drunk driving stop was all just a bit of a joke quickly stopped laughing when police put her in handcuffs — and the footage is now going viral.

The 26-year-old, identified as Lauren Briggs, was pulled over just after midnight after officers spotted her swerving between lanes on a quiet suburban road.

At first, she seemed unfazed — smiling, laughing, even joking with the officer as she stepped out of her car for a sobriety test.

“She told me she was ‘totally fine’ and started giggling when she couldn’t walk straight,” one officer said in the police report. “But when we brought out the cuffs, the mood changed instantly.”

Bodycam footage shows Lauren’s laughter fading as she’s told she’s over the legal limit and officially under arrest. Moments later, she’s placed in handcuffs and led to the patrol car — visibly stunned.

The video, which has been viewed more than 9 million times across social media, has sparked a flood of reactions.

“People always think it’s funny until it’s not,” one commenter wrote. “That look on her face when reality hit… you could tell it clicked.”

Lauren has since been charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. No one was injured in the incident, but police say it’s a reminder of how quickly “a laugh can turn into a life-changing mistake.”
