A man who went on a 20-minute rampage with a samurai sword – brutally murdering a 14-year-old boy – has been found guilty of murder and now faces life behind bars.
Marcus Arduini Monzo, 37, launched into a horrifying spree of violence in Hainault, northeast London, on April 30 last year. His goal? To kill as many people as possible – indiscriminately and without remorse.
The attack reached a sickening peak when Monzo targeted schoolboy Daniel Anjorin. The 14-year-old was walking to school when Monzo crept up behind him and delivered a catastrophic blow to the side of his face and neck. The attack was so savage, it “virtually decapitated” the teenager. Daniel died instantly.
Eyewitnesses told the Old Bailey that Monzo dropped to his knees and raised both arms in the air “screaming in delight” after the fatal blow. He then moved on to injure several others before being subdued and arrested.
Prosecutors described the attack as an “orgy of violence” and confirmed that Monzo had armed himself with a samurai sword and prepared for the onslaught like he was “going to war.”
Daniel’s death sent shockwaves through the local community and across the UK, sparking tributes and an outpouring of grief. His parents said their son’s life had been “snuffed out in an instant.”
Monzo, who was charged with murder, attempted murder, and multiple counts of GBH, showed no remorse throughout the trial. He now faces a life sentence for his brutal crimes.
Sentencing will take place at a later date.
