Who Is Queen Máxima?
For those unfamiliar with the Dutch royal family, Queen Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti, 54, has been a prominent and beloved figure in the Netherlands since her marriage to King Willem-Alexander in 2002. The two first met at a party in Spain in 1999, and Máxima’s transition from Argentine investment banker to Dutch royalty has fascinated the public for over two decades.
Máxima became queen consort when her husband ascended the throne following the abdication of Queen Beatrix in April 2013. Together, the royal couple have three daughters: Catharina-Amalia, the Princess of Orange and heir to the throne, along with Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane.
Known for her deep involvement in issues such as inclusive finance, mental health awareness, and international development, Queen Máxima’s role extends far beyond ceremonial duties. Her distinctive style and commanding presence often make her a highlight at formal events, and her appearance at this week’s NATO summit was no exception.
