Police are investigating an incident in which individuals posing as legitimate visitors allegedly attempted to gain entry into a home, potentially as part of a planned robbery.

According to law enforcement, the suspects approached the property and engaged the homeowner in conversation, claiming they needed access to the residence for unspecified reasons. The homeowner, suspicious of their behavior and inconsistent explanations, refused to let them in and instead called police.

Officers arrived within minutes, at which point the suspects reportedly tried to leave the area. Police detained them for questioning and confirmed that neither suspect had any official business at the home. Investigators believe the pair may have been attempting a “distraction scam” — a tactic where one person engages the homeowner at the door while another gains access to the property.

“This homeowner’s quick thinking likely prevented a serious crime,” a police spokesperson said. “We encourage residents to always verify identities and call us if something doesn’t feel right.”

The suspects have not yet been charged, but authorities say evidence from the scene, including witness statements and security footage, will be reviewed.

Police are reminding the public to be vigilant and to contact law enforcement immediately if approached by individuals whose identity or intentions cannot be verified.
