A UK mother has spoken out after her teenage son was arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies, saying she was completely unaware of his alleged crimes.
Police say the teen, whose name has not been released for legal reasons, is suspected of targeting multiple convenience stores and small businesses over the past month. CCTV footage from the incidents showed the suspect wearing a mask, but investigators say other evidence eventually led them to his home.
When officers arrived with a search warrant, the boy’s mother answered the door. She told reporters she was “shocked and heartbroken” when police informed her of the allegations.
“I thought they had the wrong house. My son’s never been in trouble — I had no idea,” she said.
During the search, police allegedly recovered stolen cash, clothing matching descriptions provided by witnesses, and what they believe to be the weapon used in the robberies.
Neighbours described the family as quiet and respectful, with several expressing disbelief at the arrest.
The investigation is ongoing, and the teen remains in custody pending further questioning. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether he will face charges as a juvenile or an adult.
