Authorities say a man accused of raping his 9-year-old stepdaughter has been killed by his own brothers.
Police reports indicate the man after suffering multiple injuries in what investigators are calling a targeted attack. According to law enforcement officials, the man’s brothers confronted him after learning of the allegations of sexual abuse against the child.
The alleged assault on the girl had been under active investigation, and police confirm that formal charges against the man were pending at the time of his death.
“This is a deeply disturbing and complex case,” a police spokesperson said. “We are looking at all aspects, including the motive for the killing.”
The brothers, both adults, were taken into custody at the scene. Prosecutors say they will face charges related to the killing, although their defense teams are expected to argue that the act was provoked by the abuse allegations.
Child welfare officials have confirmed the victim is now in a safe location and receiving care.
